I have spent more than 40 years building businesses, losing one rather spectacularly, rebuilding, writing, teaching and trying to understand how one person can earn without creating a monster around themselves.

I started in 1984

I started Link Technologies in South Africa in 1984. It became a substantial IT business. Then it failed.

That experience changed the questions I asked about business. Turnover was no longer enough. Growth was no longer automatically good. I became much more interested in risk, commitments, personal guarantees, cash and what happens to the owner when things go wrong.

Then I started teaching what I was learning

Since the 1990s I have written, spoken and taught about small business, marketing, cash, selling and survival. Along the way I have trained more than 50,000 business owners and written material including CrashProof Your Business.

I hold the CAIB(SA) banking qualification and became Systeme.io certified in 2024.

The work became portable

Over the years I have operated businesses while living in South Africa, Australia, the UK, Norway, Spain and Canada.

That helped shape BusinessForOne. A one-person income business should not need an office building, a fleet of staff or a mountain of fixed commitments unless there is a very good reason for them.

I am not trying to turn everybody into an entrepreneur. Many people simply want a comfortable, dependable income and more control over how they earn it.
